Daughter of Rome

In Nero’s Rome, Calandra helps her father, a renowned sculptor, complete the most significant commission of his career. But when an unforeseen tragedy nearly destroys the imperial city, Calandra finds herself dependent upon people who are unlike any she has met. Who are these Christians, and how can they worship the Son of an invisible God?
Her mistrust of the outsiders gives way to appreciation when they help her and her father return to life as they once knew it. Though Calandra cannot forsake the gods of Rome, her Christian acquaintances become dear friends.
When the emperor begins building his Golden House, the people of Rome grow resentful, suspecting that Nero set a devastating fire in order to clear the land for his immense palace. When the emperor needs a scapegoat, he points at those who follow the Jewish Messiah, forcing Calandra to make an impossible choice between right and wrong, friends and family, love and death.
